Blue Oyster Gallery, Dunedin
August 30 – September 9, 2000
Tall structures stand in a plastic grove, emulating the steel columns of the gallery. Assembled from stacks of modular white plastic
stools, the pillars recall Brancusi’s Endless Column. Cubic glass display
shelving clings to corners of the room, one structure throwing an architectural
red shadow. In a corner a clump of small folded pvc sculptures with fluffy
orange mitochondria swarm. A dry modernist fountain of glowing polystyrene
boxes obstructs the path to the gallery office. Along one wall a long sheet
of textured plastic foam forms a squashy pixellated horizon.
